England is one of the great driving nations. The English love their cars and for country that has quite a bit of rainfall the convertible is extremely popular. The highway system is quite well maintained, although the speed limits come nowhere near countries like Germany. The English B road system is idyllic and usually quite serene as far as driving roads are concerned. Discovering quaint little pubs and villages is all part of the wonderful English driving holiday.

When driving in England, there is one major thing we must remember. The English drive on the left side of the road. While initially confusing, you quickly get used to it. Also when driving in London you should note that there is a congestion charge. You have to pay a fee to drive on certain roads. However once you are out of London itself there are very few tolls to deal with.

Renting a car in England is easy as it is in most western nations. Make sure you get the full price of the rental before you sign anything. There can be many hidden costs, one that gets people all the time is the cost of the fuel when returning the car, this can be extremely high. Also sometimes there is a fee for excess kilometres, definitely check for this.

When driving on English roads, care is needed as a lot of freight is hauled on the road system. This is due to an under investment in the English rail system. So make sure you have good travel insurance just in case
